New enterprises are often naturally innovative and add to regional productivity – while existing businesses need to remain competitive as the pace of technological change accelerates and the global business climate becomes increasingly difficult. Rising cost pressures such as energy and waste disposal and the contraction of bank lending are placing more demands than ever on business.
Business Support
emda’s latest Strategy for Business Support, “Encouraging Business Success”, outlines our aim to both simplify access to and improve the quality of support available to businesses in the East Midlands. It provides every business in the region with the opportunity to develop and succeed. And, on a practical level, it establishes objectives, targets and key business issues, defining where regional business support should be in three to five years’ time.

We continue to focus on creating an enterprise culture in the region – giving people from all backgrounds the confidence to start up new businesses and encouraging enterprising activity in existing businesses. emda supports business development and sustainable growth, via programmes like HighGrowth East Midlands – a flagship scheme designed to help ambitious and forward thinking businesses achieve their full growth potential.

Helping businesses prepare for the upturn
As part of emda’s continued support for businesses during the economic downturn and to help them prepare for the upturn, emda is extending its popular Route to Market programme. The programme develops senior managers’ business strategy, customer retention, recruitment and staff development, sales and marketing and finance skills.
Workshops will be held across the region between January and March 2010. Businesses can register their interest now by calling Business Link on 0845 058 66 44.
