2007 INDEPENDENT PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT BY THE NATIONAL AUDIT OFFICE
The National Audit Office (NAO) has undertaken this Independent Performance Assessment of East Midlands Development Agency (emda) at the request of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), which is the sponsor department for Regional Development Agencies (RDAs).

A Business Update for London 2012
On 5th July 2005, London was awarded the honour of staging the 2012 Olympic Games and Paralymic Games, the two biggest and most exciting events in the world.
Planning for the Games has got off to an excellent start - in fact we are well ahead of many previou host cities at this stage in the process. New delivery structures are being formed and some of the leaders needed to drive the process have already been appointed.
Naturally, there is a huge desire for information particularly from the business community wanting to find out how it can become part of the preparations for hosting the London 2012 Games.
This update aims to share the information available at this early stage about anticipated supply needs for the Games - the board timetables, likely procurement processes and delicery structures. It suggests ways that businesses can get a head start for when contracts do become available. We hope you find the update helpful.

East Midlands Tourism, emda's tourism arm, has developed a three year strategic plan (2008 to 2011) that sets out strategic priorities for maximising the impact of tourism and the visitor economy in the East Midlands. It builds on the foundations of the first plan, which covered a 3 year period to March 2008, and focuses on three objectives
- Increase the current numbers of visitors to the region and their levels of expenditure
- Improve the competitiveness, productivity and quality of the offer for all types of visitors to the region
- Plan and facilitate the investment needed to reinvigorate the region's tourism and visitor offer

An effective Strategy for Business Support in the East Midlands underpins emda's efforts to make this a top 20 region in Europe by 2010. There is a vibrant community of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in the East Midlands, employing 1.4 million of our total workforce of 2 million people. We want to make it easier for these businesses to get the support they need to increase their competitiveness and improve the economy of the region.This strategy was designed by businesses, for businesses, with the support of the Business Services Directorate of emda. It outlines aims, objectives, targets, priority customers and key business issues, defining where business support should be in three to five years' time.[ Download PDF ]

Corporate Plan 2008 - 2011
This Corporate Plan sets out our plans for the years 2008 to 2011 against the indicative budget allocations received from Government. Our proposed activities mesh in with the challenges and targets described in the Flourishing Region Regional Economic Strategy and have been set against the backdrop of the developing Sub National Review.[ Download PDF ]Disability Equality Scheme 2006 - 2009
emda welcomes the introduction of the Disability Equality Duty, which places a responsibility on all public sector bodies to positively promote equality of opportunity for disabled people. Promoting equality of opportunity for all is crucial if we are to achieve the region’s vision:‘by 2020, the East Midlands will be a flourishing region with growing and innovative businesses, skilled people in good quality jobs, participating in healthy, inclusive communities and living in thriving and attractive places.’[ Download PDF ]
East Midlands Urban Action Plan 2005 - 2011
The regional Urban Partnership Group is very pleased to launch the new East Midlands Urban Action Plan
The document has been compiled following broad consultation which concluded in May 2005. It not only captures the key issues as identified by stakeholders that need to be addressed within our urban centres to achieve sustainable communities, but also highlights five core themes within which urban activity should be concentrated to enhance regional growth, productivity and competitiveness.
We hope that you will find this delivery focused Plan useful in terms of future prioritisation, informative on regional urban progress over the last five years and enlightening over the range of significant projects/initiatives already underway. More importantly we hope that you will draw upon the Urban Action Plan as a helpful guide when determining strategic approaches to urban delivery.

emda has produced a Race Equality Scheme (REqS) 2005 - 2008 for public consultation. This scheme sets out how we intend to meet the general and specific duties under the Race Relations Amendment Act (RR(A)A) 2000.
To be effective emda believes that the REqS must be a living document, subject to periodic and ongoing change. As such, we welcome comments from individuals and organizations at any time.

The East Midlands Tourism Strategy, entitled Destination East Midlands has now been launched. It will steer development of the industry in the region through to 2010.Its publication follows an extensive consultation with the tourism industry in the region, including private sector operators, local authorities and regional organisations who have tourism as part of their agenda.
