How to apply

Stage 1 - The Outline Proposal

The Grant for Research and Development (GRD) is available throughout the year. Application information and forms are available to download below. If you think you have a project that might qualify for a GRD award please complete and submit an Initial Proposal Form [Ms Word, 377 KB] , (guidance notes for completing [PDF, 127 KB]) to enable us to reach an initial view as to whether it fits with the scheme criteria.


Before completing the outline proposal please refer to the General Guidance Notes for applicants [PDF, 324 KB] and General guidelines for Officials [PDF, 279 KB] to help familiarise yourself with the aims of the GRD scheme and to ensure that you are eligible. If you would like assistance in putting together your project proposal and application for funding then please contact Business Link on 0845 058 6644. They maintain a directory of approved consultants from which you will be able to choose someone to work alongside you at the level you require.


Stage 2 - Making a full application
If your outline proposal is accepted the next stage is to submit a full application pack. This will include:

A decision on whether your application has been successful will be made within 8 weeks of receiving a full application with all the required information. An expert peer review will be sought from technical advisors on our Technical Register and a patent review will be commissioned. Furthermore, an in-house financial due diligence of your business will be carried out.
