The Regional Strategy for the East Midlands

From 1 April 2010, emda and the East Midlands Leaders' Board (EMLB) assumed joint responsibility for preparing an integrated East Midlands Regional Strategy.

In the first instance, the current Regional Economic Strategy (RES) will be brought together with the existing Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS) to form an interim Regional Strategy. More details on the current RES are provided below.

Regional Economic Strategy for the East Midlands 2006 – 2020
‘A Flourishing Region’ (RES)

‘A Flourishing Region’ is the third Regional Economic Strategy for the East Midlands. It follows the publication of ‘Prosperity though People’ in 1999 and ‘Destination 2010’ in 2003.Since 1 April 2010, ‘A Flourishing Region’ became an integral part of the current Regional Strategy, as detailed above.

‘A Flourishing Region’ sets out our aspirations and long term vision for the region to 2020. Its production follows the most extensive consultation process we have ever undertaken and is informed by the most comprehensive evidence base assembled on the East Midlands, its economy and its strengths and challenges.

emda, co-ordinated the RES, consulting attendees at over 100 events reaching around 1,400 regional stakeholders and partners. Members of the public were invited to join the consultation through an advertising campaign on billboards and public transport and through a dedicated website which received over 20,000 hits. In total, 495 substantive written contributions were received.

The evidence gathered, including consultations with partners, stakeholders and members of the public all helped to shape the policies outlined in the RES, which articulates a range of shared priorities and actions.
