Tourism, culture and 2012 games

Tourism contributes £5.9bn each year to the regional economy and provides jobs for 100,000 people, with around one million trips made by overseas visitors annually.

East Midlands Tourism (EMT), emda's dedicated tourism body, is responsible for developing this key industry. To find out more use the link on the left to go to the East Midlands Tourism website.

Culture, creativity and enterprise are vital for improving the prosperity and quality of life of people and communities. It is only with culture at the centre of regional strategy, policy and planning that we can meet social and economic challenges.

Culture includes these sectors of the economy:

Cultural Partnership: East Midlands

The Department of Culture Media and Sport (DCMS) has introduced a new framework for cultural agencies in the regions to work together. In the East Midlands Cultural Partnership: East Midlands now brings together the region’s key organisations in the field of culture and sport. At its core are five regional agencies which form the East Midlands Cultural Agencies Group.

Cultural Partnership: East Midlands replaces Culture East Midlands, which was dissolved on 31 March 2009.

Cultural Partnership: East Midlands works together on the following five ‘shared priorities’

We take a partnership led approach to cultural policy and work closely with Cultural Partnership: East Midlands which consists of the region's cultural agencies, including Arts Council England, Sport England, English Heritage, EM Media, EMMLAC, Regeneration East Midlands, The Heritage Lottery Fund and GOEM.
