Shaping tourism's future

Canal BoatsTourism is hugely important to the region. It contributes £4.4bn to the local economy and provides jobs for around 152,000 people, with around one million trips made by overseas visitors annually.

East Midlands Tourism (EMT), emda's dedicated tourism body, is responsible for developing this key industry. It's corporate plan for 2005 to 2008 outlines key tourism targets for the region, and draws on Destination East Midlands, the region's tourism strategy.

EMT is responsible for overseeing the successful implementation of these targets as well as allocating funding and measuring success.
